Small Engine Mechanic
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Small Engine Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of small engine equipment, including chainsaws, string trimmers, generators, water pumps, pressure washers, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), side-by-sides, riding mowers, and zero-turn mowers. This role requires a strong understanding of small engine systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality service.
Responsibilities:

Diagnose and repair malfunctions in small engine equipment, including two-stroke and four-stroke engines.

Perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.

Inspect and repair or replace components, including carburetors, ignition systems, fuel systems, and drive systems.

Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on ATVs and side-by-sides.

Service and repair hydraulic systems on riding mowers and zero-turn mowers.

Read electrical schematics.

Maintain accurate records of repairs and services performed.

Order and manage parts and supplies.

Keep the work area clean and organized.
-
Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines.

Perform pre-season and post-season maintenance on equipment.

Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operation.
Qualifications:
-
Proven experience as a Small Engine Mechanic.

Strong knowledge of two-stroke and four-stroke engine systems.
-
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of small engine equipment.

Experience with ATV and side-by-side repair and maintenance.

Knowledge of hydraulic systems related to lawn equipment such as transmissions and implements.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid driver's license (required).
-
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.

Formal training or certification in small engine repair is a plus.

Flat Rate at $56 per billed hour

Additional Wage Information
This is a flat rate per hour per job position. An average of 25 billed hours per week of work completed will net $1400 on average. Warranty labor times are used to determine time. Broken/Worn/Destroyed mounts and bolts are considered and added as more time required to complete repairs.

Essential Talents

Remove engines from equipment, and position and bolt engines to repair stands.

Reassemble engines after repair or maintenance work is complete.

Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and oiling parts, honing cylinders, and tuning ignition systems.

Adjust points, valves, carburetors, distributors, and spark plug gaps, using feeler gauges.
-
Dismantle engines, using hand tools, and examine parts for defects.
-
Record repairs made, time spent, and parts used.
-
Grind, ream, rebore, and re-tap parts to obtain specified clearances, using grinders, lathes, taps, reamers, boring machines, and micrometers.

Repair and maintain gasoline engines used to power equipment such as portable saws, lawn mowers, generators, and compressors.

Repair or replace defective parts such as magnetos, water pumps, gears, pistons, and carburetors, using hand tools.

Replace motors.
-
Test and inspect engines to determine malfunctions, to locate missing and broken parts, and to verify repairs, using diagnostic instruments.
